CAI developed a highly focused methodology for capturing the business requirements of our clients’ data. Our Data Mapping Tool, Data PRIME, enables shortened implementation and dramatically increases quality of the data migration. By focusing on and automating this aspect of the implementation, Data PRIME reduces the time required to capture data mapping requirements by up to 50 percent. This reduction of effort ripples throughout the project timeline as it increases accuracy, enhances understanding of the business meaning of data in source and target systems, and reduces the number of iterations needed to complete the conversion.

Our Process

CAI uses a business driven source-to-target mapping process to document the meaning of data. Data PRIME provides an efficient and effective framework for documenting data integration requirements. The process begins with loading the tool with the source and target data element information. The data elements are then mapped and transformation rules are documented. We iteratively present the results to the user and/or technical community in terms they understand until consensus is achieved. Finally the source-to-target requirements are imported into technical specification documents and coding can begin. You can be confident that all data elements are accounted for during the requirements phase.

Data PRIME in Action

There were 4,000 tables to address for conversion for the project and mapping was accomplished using Data PRIME. With a mapping speed of roughly 1,000 tables per week, Data PRIME kept us organized and ahead of schedule.
Data PRIME was the key in this conversion and assisted our efforts immensely. As a result, mapping requirements were delivered to the client 1 month prior to the deadline. Data PRIME’s comprehensive tracking promoted good discussion with the client and the end result was a solid reference for our developers as well as the client.
Data PRIME’s value continued to deliver as we rolled through conversion. All information for reporting was easily identified within Data PRIME and grouped by subject matter area. I had never used Data PRIME or the erwin Data Modeler application before but due to the ease of use and the value in return, I could not image this project without Data PRIME.
